The carp primarily symbolizes perseverance and good luck in general. The carp is always in motion and is considered one of the fish with the most energy and strength. It is also able to swim against the current, which is interpreted as the strength to overcome adversity. A Chinese legend (the carp's symbol originated there) tells of a carp swimming up the Yellow River to reach the Dragon Gate, after which it transforms into a dragon.
