The carp primarily symbolizes perseverance and good luck in general. The carp is always on the move and is considered one of the fish with the most energy and strength. It is also able to swim against the current, which is interpreted as strength to overcome adversity. A Chinese legend (the territory of origin of the carp symbol) tells of a carp's ascent up the Yellow River, eventually arriving at the Dragon Gate, past which it transforms into a dragon.
